Microsoft signed maiden Renewable Energy Deal In India

In a major announcement, Microsoft informed the press that it has signed their first-ever deal in the renewable energy segment in India, where a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) has been signed with the Atria Power, in the state of Karnataka.

According to the deal, Microsoft will purchase, in the initial stage, 3 megawatts (MW) of power, derived through solar energy, from renewable power producer Atria Power, which is a small company, based in Bangalore, the capital city of Karnataka.

While Microsoft has the intention of having the renewable power for their new office building in Bangalore, which will be around 80% of their total consumption; the PPA is being considered as part of the much-hyped program of the Karnataka government’s decision to encourage the investment and operations of solar energy.

To mark this occasion of signing the agreement, Anant Maheshwari, President, Microsoft India said, “Investing in local solar energy to help power our new Bangalore office building is good for Microsoft, good for India and good for the environment.”
