National Aluminium Company Limited (NALCO), the ‘Navratna’ CPSE under Ministry of Mines has been planning for the expansion of their Alumina, Aluminium and Power capacities, with a target to achieve the 1 million tonne production capacity by the year 2020.
To fulfill their expectation, NALCO has already taken the decision to undertake the brownfield expansion of their Smelter, with an estimated investment of Rs. 12,000 crore, at the Angul unit in Odisha.
This quantum of investment will increase the production capacity by 6 lakh tonne annually, which is almost 31% more from the current capacity of 4.6 lakh tonne per annum, at the Angul plant of the company.
In addition this, NALCO has further planning to invest Rs. 6, 000 crore in their south block bauxite mines at Panchpatmalli and is expecting an annual production capacity of 3.15 million tonnes. The capacity expansion in the Alumina refinery of the company at Damanjodi to be increased 1 million tonne, with an estimated cost of Rs. 5,540 crore, expected to be commissioned by 2020.
