Union minister Dharmendra Pradhan paid tributes to freedom fighter Baxi Jagabandhu at Gadrodang village Puri as part of BJP’s Tiranga yatra. The Minister visited the descendants of the freedom fighter in his native village Gadrodang and held discussions with them. He garlanded the statue of Jagabandhu. Pradhan was welcomed with much fervour and pomp by local residents. He headed for the freedom fighter’s village in a bike rally.
He talked to Lalitendu Bidyadhar Mohapatra, grandson of Buxi Jagabandhu, and also the latter’s younger brother Congress strongman Lalatendu (Lulu) Bidyadhar Mohaptra. “ Elated to garland statute of Bakshi Jagabandhu in his native place Gadarodanga in Odisha’s Puri District. Bakshi Jagabandhu was the leader of India’s first organised armed revolt against British. In the year 1817 not less than five decades before 1857 Sepoy mutiny Bakshi led the popular Paika Rebellion in Odisha. Let his sacrifice for the country continue to be the source of inspiration for generations ahead,” said Minister Pradhan.
Thousands of party workers joined as the Yatra started from Puri to Gadarodanga, the birth place of great Paika warrior Bakshi Jagabandhu. “Feel honoured to be in the midst of youths with Tiranga in their hands. Let the spirit of patriotism prevail forever,” further added Minister Pradhan. After garlanding statute of Bakshi Jagabandhu Minister Pradhan addressed gathering of local people. Remembered rich contribution of Odias in Freedom Movement of the country. 2017 is 200th anniversary year of Paika Rebellion of Odisha led by Baksi Jagabandhu.
“Wished to invite Hon’ble Prime Minister to be part of the celebration next year to mark 200th year of Paika Rebellion against British . Proposed Government of India to set up an international standard museum carrying memory of heroes and people associated with India’s first organised armed rebellion against British in the entire country,”further added Minister Pradhan.
